It is being issued both in a pane and a souvenir sheet.The souvenir sheet has four new stamps on it. The single reprint has a “2026” year date. The city in the first-day postmark is Pittsburgh, where the original stamp was issued on March 23, 2018.

Welcome Back to the Neighborhood, Mister Rogers
USPS announces Stamp Encore contest winner

BOSTON — Today at the Boston 2026 World Exposition, the Postal Service announced the winner of its Stamp Encore contest: the Mister Rogers stamp from 2018. To celebrate the organization’s 250th anniversary, and gear up to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary, the public was invited to vote on their favorite of 25 stamp panes from the Postal Service’s recent past.

The Mister Rogers stamp was re-issued — along with a new, four-image Mister Rogers souvenir sheet — in a ceremony as part of the exposition’s favorite stamp theme day. The stamps and souvenir sheet are exclusively on sale at the Boston 2026 Expo through May 30, and will then be available at Post Office locations nationwide and online at The Postal Store starting June 1.

“When we issued the Mister Rogers stamp in 2018, we ordered a print run of some 12 million. That may sound like a lot, but Mister Rogers really took us by surprise,” said Isaac Cronkhite, the Postal Service’s chief processing and distribution officer and executive vice president. “Within just a few weeks, the stamps honoring this humble, softspoken man had sold out completely.”

“Fred Rogers often shared the idea that ‘You are not just the age you are. You are all the ages you ever have been.’ In this context, I believe the Mister Rogers stamp resonated with the child in each of us — and the children and former children who cast so many votes,” Cronkhite said, linking the positive public response to how Rogers addressed childhood insecurities in a calm, reassuring manner that helped viewers feel safe in a sometimes-frightening world. “Although his show allowed him to speak to millions, his gift was communicating in a way that spoke directly to each child, on subjects both serious and silly,” he said. “He showed tremendous respect and compassion for everyone and knew how to nurture the best in all of us. It seems especially fitting that Mister Rogers is the winner because Fred Rogers was a passionately loyal postal customer and a huge advocate for the power of mail.”

“Fred Rogers considered the space between the television set and a viewer to be ‘holy ground,’” said Emma Lee, Director of the Fred Rogers Institute. “The mail children sent to Mister Rogers, and his letters back, became an essential extension of that sacred connection. Reissuing this stamp beautifully honors the enduring ties he built with his television friends.”

“Celebrating Fred Rogers’ legacy as the Stamp Encore honoree during such a historic year for our nation is a profound privilege,” said Paul Siefken, President and CEO of Fred Rogers Productions. “When people use this stamp, we hope it serves as a small, daily reminder of Fred’s enduring belief in the inherent worth of every human being.”

The Stamp Encore competition gave the public 10 weeks to vote on their favorite stamp by mail, in-person at first-day-of-issue ceremonies and online. Over 500,000 votes were received, with the Mister Rogers stamp securing the win by more than 40,000 votes over the next highest contender.

Fred McFeely Rogers was born on March 20, 1928, in Latrobe, PA. Envisioning the potential for creating quality programming for children, Rogers helped found the educational television station WQED in Pittsburgh in 1953. There, Rogers co-produced “The Children’s Corner,” a 1-hour show for which he was musical composer, organist and puppeteer. In 1963 Rogers was hired by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to host a daily children’s television show, “Mister Rogers.” He shortly thereafter began to produce a half-hour version of the show for WQED. The following year, several East Coast public television stations aired the program, which was later renamed “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”

Every episode of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” began with Mister Rogers welcoming the audience into his television house as he put on his trademark cardigan, changed into sneakers, and then introduced the day’s topic. The show featured a Trolley visit to “The Neighborhood of Make-Believe,” where the personalities and interactions of many characters helped impart real-life lessons. Rogers addressed young children’s concerns and emotions, helping them to feel good about who they were, to appreciate others, and foster curiosity about the world.

After the announcement of the Stamp Encore competition last July, the city of Pittsburgh campaigned for the stamp to make a comeback. Social media posts highlighting the potential return earned over 20,000 likes and shares, and even more votes. Rogers’ influence can still be seen today in the award-winning PBS KIDS series “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” produced by Fred Rogers Productions and featuring characters based on those from the original “Neighborhood of Make-Believe.”

Derry Noyes, an art director for USPS, designed the stamp. “It’s all about the man, and his universal appeal, which will carry on,” Noyes said, “The best I can do as a graphic designer is to portray him clearly, straightforward, without special gimmicks, just as he would have wanted.”

The original stamp features Walt Seng’s photograph of Rogers in a red cardigan and includes King Friday XIII, a puppet character hailing from “The Neighborhood of Make-Believe.” To mark the occasion, Noyes also designed a Mister Rogers souvenir sheet with four new stamps, featuring additional images by Seng with other characters from the “Neighborhood,” a fitting keepsake to further honor Rogers.

USPS has produced several exclusive Boston 2026 Exposition products featuring Mister Rogers. In addition to the Fred Rogers souvenir sheet, there is a writing kit, a premium stamp pin, a Field Notes memo pad and many more. All show exclusive products will be available online at The Postal Store starting
June 1.

The Mister Rogers stamps are being issued as Forever stamps in a pane of 20. The Mister Rogers souvenir sheet is being issued as Forever stamps in a pane of four. These Forever stamps will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce rate.

VSC Notes: (The earlier information about the first-day postmark was incorrect. The city is Boston.)

Probably the featured speaker at the first-day ceremony was David Newell, who played Mr. McFeely the letter carrier, on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” [photo right] His first words were “speedy delivery!” Then he added, “It certainly is a beautiful day in your stamp expo neighborhood.”

Newell said Rogers hated having his photograph taken, so to satisfy all the requests for different photos from the media, he scheduled a picture-taking session in the studio in which many pictures were taken. The 2018 stamp design (and presumably the others) is from that photo session.

He also said that his (Newell’s) youngest son Alex, whom Fred met on the day after his birth, is now a letter carrier.

After beginning his remarks, Cronkhite [right, below] put on a cardigan sweater — “Don’t worry, I won’t take off my shoes.” — and noted that he began his career in Boston: “Go Red Sox!”

“I grew up with ‘Mister Rogers,’ inspiring my love of mail and factories,” Cronkhite said. “It’s no wonder I became an industrial engineer for the United States Postal Service.”

From his exclamation when he opened the envelope with the name of the winning stamp, I get the feeling Cronkhite voted for the Mister Rogers stamp, although he assured the ceremony audience that his vote counted no more than anyone else’s.

Bobb-Semple noted that the envelope with the name of the winning stamp had been at every first-day ceremony in 2026, and expressed relief that she no longer had to worry about it or its security.

“It was no secret that Fred Rogers loved mail,” said Lee, Director of the Fred Rogers Institute. She said the institute has hundreds of thousands of pieces of mail that were went to him. “He always brought home copies of letters to share with” his wife,” Lee said.

NEW YORK — The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has announced it will honor the nation’s 250th anniversary with the release of American Icons, a collection of 13 commemorative stamps, curated by legendary American designer Ralph Lauren.

The pane celebrates shared national values and the enduring spirit that has defined the American experience for 2 1/2 centuries.

This marks the first time the Postal Service has invited an individual to curate a complete official USPS stamp issuance.

For nearly 60 years, Ralph Lauren has influenced American style with his enduring creative vision that is deeply rooted in the tapestry of American heritage, landscapes, cultures and artistry. A 2025 recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Lauren is a profound testament to the boundless possibilities of creativity, determination and the American dream. Born in 1939 in the Bronx NY, Mr. Lauren began his remarkable journey by selling his first line of neckties from a single drawer in the Empire State Building and subsequently built one of the most iconic global lifestyle brands in the world. Throughout his life, he has been dedicated to protecting America’s cultural traditions, most notably through his commitment to preserve and conserve the 1813 flag that inspired the nation’s national anthem and became the national symbol — “The Star-Spangled Banner” — for generations to come.

The American Icons stamp collection features 13 photographs selected from Ralph Lauren’s archive and from visuals that have inspired him and that reflect the unique fabric of the nation, representing freedom, independence, equality, opportunity and the pursuit of happiness. The designs include:

The 12 stamps each include the “American Icons” title and “FOREVER” and “USA” in white text in the upper left or upper right corners. In the center of the stamp pane, surrounded by blue denim and framed by the other 12 stamps, a 13th stamp shows a knit flag designed by Ralph Lauren with text that reads “1776 to 2026.” The text at the top of the selvage reads “American Icons CURATED BY RALPH LAUREN” and the bottom row reads “Celebrating 250 Years of the United States of America.”

The American Icons stamps will be issued in panes of 13. As Forever stamps, they will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.

The 2026 Mail Use Stamp
Inspired by the artistry of the American Icons collection, the 2026 U.S. Flag Mail Use Stamp will feature a detailed photograph of a knitted interpretation of the U.S. flag taken from Ralph Lauren’s iconic Flag Sweater. One of the most enduring and widely used stamps in the U.S. postal system, it will be available in panes, booklets and coils in a smaller, definitive format for widespread mail use.

A First Look: USPS Stamp Unveiling
The dedication ceremony will take place Tuesday, June 9, at 11 a.m. Eastern at the iconic James A. Farley Post Office Building, 421 Eighth Ave., New York. Elvin Mercado, the Postal Service’s chief retail and delivery officer, will serve as the dedicating official; attendees are encouraged to register atusps.com/americaniconsstamps.

Barbie To Be Celebrated With New Stamps
Stamp set to be released at collectors convention this summer

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service today announced a new release coming this summer: a set of Barbie stamps featuring Barbie dolls through the years, dressed for 10 iconic careers.

These designs are preliminary and may change.

Barbie
Created by Mattel Inc., a global play and family entertainment company, and introduced in 1959 as “The Original Teenage Fashion Model,” Barbie quickly became an icon and symbol of limitless possibilities for generations of children. During more than 65 years as a staple of imaginative childhood play, the best-selling doll of all time has represented more than 250 careers.

From surgeon to astronaut, paleontologist to soccer player, sign language teacher to music star, Barbie fans can dream big and explore a huge range of possibilities.

Ethel Kessler, an art director for USPS, collaborated with Mattel on the design of the stamps and pane. To best showcase the dolls and their career attire, the stamps employ a rarely used format, a third taller than the usual vertical commemorative stamp. Kessler says the team approached the project “with a spirit of fun,” using bright, energetic shades — predominantly the famous “Barbie Pink” — to evoke a feeling of joy.

Barbie commemorative stamps will be released on July 11, during the 2026 National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention in Austin, TX. As Forever stamps, they will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.

As the 1985 advertising jingle proclaimed, “We girls can do anything!” The Postal Service will honor that world of possibilities with 10 new stamps featuring Barbie dressed to portray 10 different careers.

The first-day-of-issue interactive event for the Barbie commemorative stamps is free and open to the public. News of the stamps is being shared with the hashtag #BarbieStamps.

Garfield Comic (Netherlands 2026)

Garfield

PostNL issued the Garfield frame stamps on April 27, 2026. Frame stamps are issued alongside the official program and designed based on a fixed layout, with a fixed number of stamps per sheet. Each of these 5 stamps features a different portrait of Garfield.

Simultaneously with the Garfield frame stamps, PostNL released the Garfield gold stamp. This stamp, featuring 24-karat gold, shows a standing portrait of Garfield that does not appear on the frame stamps.

Garfield is a character from the comic series of the same name. He is a lazy, fat, orange cat who lives with his ‘owner’ Jon Arbuckle and the always cheerful, but very stupid dog Odie. Garfield is constantly looking for food, with a strong preference for lasagna and a strong aversion to healthy food. Jon regularly forces him to go on a diet. He is too lazy to hunt mice. At night, he likes to give noisy performances on the fence that are not appreciated by the neighbors, sleeps a lot, is sarcastic and headstrong, destroys the neighbor’s garden, and bullies the dog and Jon. Another running gag in the comic is his strong dislike of Mondays.

Over the years, Garfield became increasingly human. He even started walking upright, and was therefore fitted with larger feet. The cat also became smarter than his owner Jon, who originally played the lead role in the comic. Their roles reversed. Garfield cannot speak – his lines are in so-called ‘thought bubbles’ – but over time, the comic showed that he can write and use computers, telephones, and tools.

The creator, writer, and illustrator of Garfield is the American Jim Davis (1945). He named the comic cat after his grandfather, who in turn was named after the 20th president of the United States. Davis spent his childhood on a small cattle ranch in Indiana where about 25 cats also lived.

Popularity
The comic strip first appeared via a comic syndicate in a number of American local newspapers in 1978 and was already being printed in 850 newspapers worldwide by 1981. Davis then founded the company Paws Inc., in which he placed the rights. In 2004, the strip appeared in no fewer than 2,600 newspapers, and in that peak year, merchandise generated a billion dollars worldwide.

In the Netherlands, the strip appeared in De Telegraaf from November 1980 to January 2021. Comic books, films, television specials, and video games have been produced starring Garfield, and an endless series of consumer goods and clothing items bearing his likeness have been created. Davis sold Paws Inc. to Nickelodeon (part of Paramount Global) in 2019. He still produces the strip himself, with the help of 20 assistants.

Stamp designer Frank Janse received assistance from his intern Alec Versluis in designing the framed stamps, which is why Versluis is also listed on the stamp sheet. Certain elements of the framed stamps are fixed, such as the format, the lettering of the value indication and ‘Netherlands’, and the sorting hook. In this case, Janse was also bound by the lettering of the texts ‘Garfield’, ‘Nickelodeon’, and the text inside the speech bubbles in the comic drawings. Paws Inc., the company that manages the rights to Garfield, is part of Nickelodeon. Therefore, both company names appear on the sheet. The background colors of the drawings are also fixed by the rights; there was a choice of 10 colors.

Janse had a wide selection of Garfield drawings to choose from. ‘The character Garfield has a number of traits, including some less desirable ones such as arrogance, destructiveness, and cynicism. I chose to use cheerful drawings for the 5 framed stamps, so that each one creates a likeable image in its own right. His love for lasagna and his striving to take as many naps as possible are featured. His favorite stuffed animal is also on it. For example, a drawing in which he scratches something to pieces with his nails didn’t make the cut; it didn’t work well on a standalone image.’

For the gold stamp, Janse chose a drawing in which Garfield poses somewhat jauntily and full of self-confidence. On the packaging of this stamp, he leans back and waves.

Janse has given the sheet of framed stamps as much of a comic strip look as possible. ‘It must be clearly recognizable that it concerns a comic character.’ That is why the design is tightly framed and nothing runs off the sheet. The 5 stamps are arranged in a row like in a comic strip, with the serrated edge as a border. Garfield is taking a nap above, but remains entirely within the frame of the space above the stamps.

From various options, Janse chose the quote ‘Mornings would be better if they started later’. It fits with the sleeping Garfield at the top, and Garfield’s naps also reappear on the second stamp, which features the letter Z used in comics to indicate that the character is sleeping.

The Hague, April 2, 2026 – PostNL has released a special stamp sheet for WorldPride Amsterdam 2026. The release coincides with the moment the Netherlands made history 25 years ago. On April 1, 2001, Job Cohen, then Mayor of Amsterdam, officiated the very first same-sex marriage. Twenty-five years later, this moment still marks an important step in the recognition of equality and love in all its forms.

PostNL stands for a society in which everyone feels free and safe to love whoever they want and to be whoever they are. With this release, PostNL underscores the importance of equality and appreciation for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Amsterdam in the World Spotlight
WorldPride began in Rome in 2000. This year, the event is coming to Amsterdam. The city was awarded the organization partly due to that historic wedding that took place 25 years ago. During WorldPride, there are parades, street parties, film festivals, concerts, and conferences throughout the city.

WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 takes place in the capital from 25 July to 8 August 2026, organised by the Pride Amsterdam Foundation. WorldPride is a global event held every few years in a different city, aimed at increasing international visibility and awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues. LGBTQIA+ is the abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual, with the + standing for all other identities. The first WorldPride took place in Rome in 2000. The 2‑week event will conclude on 8 August with the WorldPride March and the WorldPride Closing Concert on Museumplein.

Colorful design that connects
For this issue, designer Martin Cadwallader created a cheerful and clear design. In each stripe, this graphic designer has provided a kaleidoscopic interpretation of the colors and shapes of a different flag from the LGBTQIA+ community. Together, the stripes form a playful whole. Beneath the stripes are patterns that reflect cultures coming together in the Netherlands. This gives the sheet an energetic look befitting WorldPride.

Colorful patterns from around the world
The design features pangi motifs from Suriname, flowers from Aruba and Curaçao, batik from Indonesia, Moroccan shapes, and Turkish tulips. Dutch motifs such as flowers and Delft Blue also appear. In this way, the sheet shows how all these cultures reinforce one another.

Martin Cadwallader previously created designs for the Pride Amsterdam Foundation, including the logos and visual identity for EuroPride Amsterdam 2016 and Pride Amsterdam 2019. In 2025 he was again approached by the foundation, this time to design the visual identity for WorldPride Amsterdam 2026.

“Unity is the key to combating intolerance,” said Cadwallader. “I expressed this through the concept of the ‘cultural kaleidoscope,’ also known as the fan of cultures. The visual identity, as also applied to the WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 stamps, shows that everything is connected and that every culture is an essential part of the whole. Just like the colourful geometric patterns in a kaleidoscope that constantly form new shapes while remaining connected, symbolising unity in diversity.”

Royal Mail has unveiled images of a set of 12 stamps that mark the centenary of the birth of the late Queen Elizabeth, ahead of the anniversary on 21 April 2026.

The main set of eight stamps commemorates the life and work of the late Queen Elizabeth and features photographs from throughout her life, from early childhood until late in her reign.

A further four stamps presented in a miniature sheet reflect her lifelong love of horses and dogs.

David Gold, Director of External Affairs & Policy, Royal Mail, said: “With these Special Stamps, we pay tribute to the late Queen, whose commitment to duty was unparalleled in history. The stamps tell the remarkable story of a very public life of dedicated service, and a more private passion for dogs and horses, about which Her Majesty was a renowned expert.”

From her accession to the throne on 6 February 1952, the late Queen was an ever-present feature of stamps in Britain. Every stamp created during her reign featured an image of her usually in the forms of the Wilding portrait, the Machin definitive or the Gillick silhouette. She also featured on numerous stamps created to mark Royal events and anniversaries such as birthdays, jubilees and weddings. The late Queen Elizabeth
Born in the aftermath of the First World War, Elizabeth II was raised during the Second. She would go on to reign through what became known as the Jet Age, the Space Age and the Digital Age. More than half of the nations on Earth today did not exist in their present form when she succeeded her father, King George VI, on 6 February 1952. Her Coronation took place the following year.

She comfortably broke the reigning record of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria over seven decades in which she witnessed more change than any of her predecessors. Queen Elizabeth II always understood that the monarchy had to move with the times while connecting her people to the traditions that had shaped their country. She was a devout Supreme Governor of the Church of England, a proud Head of the Armed Forces and a diligent Head of the Commonwealth.

Beyond her duties as a monarch, the late Queen Elizabeth had a lifelong passion for animals, especially horses and dogs, and was devoted to her family. She was married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, for more than 73 years and loved being surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

USPS Announces Stamp Issues for World Stamp Show
Three new stamp subjects revealed

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service today announced the stamp issues that will be premiered at the Boston 2026 World Exposition, the 12th international philatelic exhibition of the United States.

The expo will run from May 23-30 and will feature a USPS first-day-of-issue ceremony on most days of the show.

Treasures of the Revolutionary Era

The Treasures of the Revolutionary Era stamps will be issued as part of the opening ceremony for the 2026 Boston World Exposition.

To mark the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the U.S. Postal Service presents this 20-stamp prestige booklet as part of a broader USPS initiative commemorating 250 years of American independence. Centered on 10 compelling objects from the era, the booklet offers a vivid connection to the symbols and stories that helped shape the United States. Reflecting the booklet’s focus on tangible history, the featured objects range from simple tools to powerful symbols of national purpose drawn from museum collections and historical archives. To complement the stamps, the booklet also includes images and background text that place each object in historical context, connecting everyday experiences to the larger forces at work during the Revolutionary era. Ethel Kessler, an art director for USPS, designed the booklet and stamps.

Commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States, this pane pays tribute to 25 individuals whose ideas, leadership and sacrifices were vital to achieving American independence and shaping the new nation. Representing a range of roles and perspectives, from political thinkers and military leaders to writers, diplomats and everyday citizens, the honorees reflect the collective effort that defined the Revolution. Ethel Kessler, an art director for USPS, designed the pane, which features original artwork by 13 contemporary artists.

All USPS ceremonies are free and open to the public. The Stamp Encore issue is exclusive to the Boston 2026 World Exposition during the show but will be available at usps.com and Post Office locations nationwide starting June 1. All other stamps issued at the show will be available at usps.com and at Post Office locations nationwide on their issue date.

North American Soccer (U.S. 2026)

This previously-unannounced stamp will be issued May 28, the sixth day of Boston 2026. The U.S. is hosting the World Cup in 2026, but the stamp does not mention that event or FIFA, its governing body. It is not a joint issue.
