Linn’s: Batman Stamp This Summer

Breaking news at linns.com: Holy Smokes! Another Batman stamp is on the way! According to the paper’s Bill McAllister, the stamp would be issued at Comic-Con, the huge convention for comics in San Diego. This year, it is being held July 24-27. Since the USPS rarely issues stamps on Saturdays or Sundays, that would make July 24 or 25 most likely. More at www.linns.com/news/batman.aspx

TheĀ Comic-Con website says Batman writers have just been added as a special guests.

June 6th: No one connected with the USPS at the Hot Rods first day ceremony would confirm this issue, but all had a cat-that-ate-the-canary smile and said the stock phrases that are uttered when an issue is on the schedule but they don’t want to say. Holy Obfuscation, Batman! There is nothing yet on the Comic-Con 2014 website.

  1. So long as the following are included Robin, Batgirl, Alfred, Commissioner Gorden, and the Mayor. The rest of the empty spaces on the pane of 20 should include ALL of Batman’s Super villains, such as Joker, Penguin, Riddler, etc, etc.

    • Unless they do better planning then they have demonstrated in the past, Harry Potter as a prime example, the M&M girls will again have to manufacture a victory story for another failed “blockbuster” issuance as they have done throughout 2013 for the ever declining stamp commemorative program, which Steve Kearney was able to revive in 2011 and 2012.

  2. OK I understand Batman is an anniversary year and it makes sense. But do we really need every nostalgic but marginal idea somebody had printed THIS YEAR? Too many issues. The FDC Envelope vendors can’t even keep up.

  3. Comic-Con is celebrating the anniversary with several special guests and panels. The USPS is all about selling stamps, but, more importantly, using stamps for marketing and to draw attention to how wonderful the USPS is. Historical significance is second on the list of reasons to issue stamps – if that high.

All IMHO, and I am not speaking for the American First Day Cover Society nor any other organization with which I am associated.
