Space - The Latest U-N Frontier
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The United Nations is now offering a set of stamps with a space theme, called "Nebula."
"It's images that have been taken from the Hubble spacecraft and other similar type of
things." RUNS :06
United Nations Postal Administration Chief Dave Failor says the stamps designs are
stunning.
"They're very futuristic-looking photographs that have all sorts of things like galactic
clouds and things like that, so they're really quite beautiful artistically. RUNS :10
Although the stamps are on sale NOW, they look toward the future....
"They'll be around for World Space Week, which is kind of an awareness week." :05
..... which is in early October.
Failor says there are several reasons for the U-N to issue space stamps.
"It's quite a collectible subject. There's a lot of people who like space as a subject,
so that's important for us." RUNS :05
....but also because World Space Week's organizers asked.
"They had actually approached us about doing something for the 50th anniversary of
the first woman in space, which is earlier this year, but we had already committed, so
we weren't able to do that, but we'll kind of be a part of some of those celebrations
that'll be going on." RUNS :12
