Showing Up

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

With so much stamp collecting online, why go to a stamp show? There are several reasons.

First, the Internet is great if you know what you're looking for. But as you look at the
exhibits and dealer displays at a show, you may find something of interest that you
WEREN'T looking for.

There's also a difference between seeing something in your computer monitor or in a
magazine, and seeing it in person.... perhaps even handling it. Many stamp collectors
have made discoveries by holding something up to the light or looking at it from another
angle.

The most valuable stamps don't sell on eBay, but neither do the really inexpensive ones.
With fees, postage and packing materials, it just doesn't pay. But you can find cheap
stamps at shows.

And stamp collecting can be a solitary hobby, working alone in your room, even with the
Internet. Sometimes it's nice to get out, go to a stamp show, and see hundreds, maybe
thousands, of people.....just like us.
