  1. Near as I can count, there will be 135 new issues this year (2023). Is my count close to being correct? Is this a record amount of new issues for any given year?

    • Probably not. Check out a year with an International in the U.S. 2016 had 60 issues just by itself. (I just counted using the VSC U.S. program for 2016)Other “internationals” have seen 50-stamp sheets and so on. It also depends on how you count “issues.” The USPS might say “31 issues” in 2023, or even fewer if it doesn’t count definitives and “special” issues like Express and Priority Mail.

      • Not sure about that number. From my count I’m getting 24 issues, 89 designs (non-repeating), 106 stamps total. That’s not including the Duck Hunting Stamps. Am I missing something?

        • Probably not missing anything, Mary, just counting differently. Define “issue:” Is it stamps with the same first-day date and city? Is it each face-different stamp? Is it each configuration (sheet/coil/booklet/souvenir sheet)? Do you count different printers of the exact same design and configuration (such as for Flag stamps) as different issues or one issue? “Ya pays ya money, ya takes ya choice!” 🤓

          • I didn’t intend to stir up a hornet’s nest, but I just count Scott Numbers. That’s how I arrived at my figure for this year. And yes, I count definitives and their many variants because if I am intending to obtain an example of each “issue” then I feel it should be counted. But I realize there is no set rule for counting so we all do it in the way that serves our collection best.

          • It’s not a “hornet’s nest,” Dennis. It’s a good discussion. The USPS says it is releasing the same number of issues as in the past. Collectors disagree.
