Yes, completely snarky, because one person’s unnecessary stamp may be the highlight of another’s collection. And the U.S. Postal Service has to serve a population that is most diverse than that of most country’s. Still…

IF, it’s from the ones shown above,,, I’d say the “$ 10.00” Express issue.
From the entire list announced so far, which one would you choose? Sounds as if you have another candidate in mind.
I will wait until more will be revealed. So far, Patriotic Block, the $10 stamp and Piniatas! are the least of what I want to get next year. US flag is also on the borderline, but that I will get in the mail regardless.š
I wish the USPS was more transparent about their stamp choices and what went into them and what they are seeing the public request. It’s too much to ask I am sure, but I wish it was so.
At his seminar at Americover/Great American Stamp Show 2022, Bill Gicker, Director, Stamp Services said that requests need to identify why a subject is more important than any other similar subject under consideration. For example, he said, if one were submitting a request to honor a mathematician, the request needs to explain why that mathematician is more important than any other mathematician.
You can find the CSAC criteria at https://about.usps.com/who/csac/welcome.htm#criteria
I am no expert. Just a hobbyist. But it seems like the Citizensā Stamp Advisory Committee breaks its own rules constantly.
Agree. Not only that, but they’re also politically motivated.
The $10 floral geometry stamp has to be the least necessary of these, though I suppose any philatelic mailers with heavy but small items might appreciate having this option to use instead of two $5 floral geometry stamps. The others on this list all look nice to me, and Iām sure theyāll all have fans among topical collectors.
Surprised that someone who rides AMTRAK would include a set of stamps showing historic train stations on his least necessary list.
Personally, I voted for the 40 cent Red Fox since there is no 40 cent rate.
Hey, I love the railroad stations stamps. I’m just not sure what the “hook” for the issue is. However, based on what I’m seeing, i’m not the only railfan/philatelist here.
Vintage train stations are part of Americana.
Do you really want an Old Coot / Stamp Collector out Driving a Car? ( Image of the old dame in the Lincoln Continental who can’t see over the steering wheel, or the Old Coot in the AMC Javelin with no teeth. ) I’m Really Glad BRIGHTLINE is building Trains in Florida. ( Re: Tampa Police Chief in Golf Cart. ) As long as AMTRAK has a wheel-chair ramp, I’m all for trains.
I even gave a copy of the ‘Proposed Pane’ ( Thanks Lloyd ) to the folks at the local AMTRAK station, and then told them the stamps were probably not on Automatic Distribution, but they could order them from USPS.COM anyway, and they said they would probably buy some. ( Maybe a mini-pane to mount on the wall in the AMTRAK station too… )
Iāve been seeing a really bad trend in the US stamp program. It seems like they are using the same art directors and artist to generate similar computer generated art. I much prefer traditional illustration and less computer graphicy execution. Take a page from Canada on how to do interesting stamp execution that have thought and variety
I couldn’t agree with you more Mike!
Kudos to Mike! vCanada gas ALWAYS had a more colorful and insightful stamp program. The USPS could well take lessons from their offerings!
I agree! Less ‘Computer Art’ and more Real Art/Photographs. ( Such as Standing Bear, or something from the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Calendar. )
Those who design US stamps need to get back to our roots. Far too many issues that are not of any importance. We need more issues that commemorate our historical past and present. There needs to be new blood in the design division. Early commemoratives did just that.
Michael:
I agree. We have a rich history, stamps used to commemorate important people, places and events. Why in the world will there be 4 pinata stamps, 4 snow globe stamps?
Thank goodness for my albums, I can revisit great stamps that used to teach me about important things.
Of the six ānomineesā only three are traditional first class stamps. I think the train stations are one of the best. Least necessary ā Thinking of You.
As near as I can tell only the Lichtenstein stamps (they look great) mark a significant historical milestone, in this case the 100th anniversary of his birth.
Least Necessary – Thinking of You.
( You’re already writing a card/letter… )
Echoing several posts above. Too many frivolous, silly issues. Too little respect for traditional stamp design and subject matter. Just too many issues. Just channel the 1950’s and 60’s. Why not Washington and Lincoln for “standard” no frills, not-a-commerative first.class and second-ounce stamps?
P.S. I really like the train station issue.
