Snowy Beauty (U.S. 2022)

Announced by the USPS on May 3rd:

These stamps celebrate the warmth and cheer that flowers and berries bring to our natural landscapes, even after a surprise snow.

In these hand-sketched and painted designs, the artist uses light, shadow and luminous color to evoke the beauty of 10 species: camellia, winter aconite, crocus, hellebore, winterberry, pansy, plum blossom, grape hyacinth, daffodil and ranunculus.

Derry Noyes designed the stamps with original oil paintings by Gregory Manchess.

The Snowy Beauty stamps will be released in Guilford, IN, without a first-day-of-issue ceremony this fall.

Additional information will be posted below the line, with the most recent info near the top.

  1. “The Snowy Beauty stamps will be released in Guilford, IN, without a first-day-of-issue ceremony this fall.” ( USPS )
    Any Stamp Clubs nearby?

  2. If Sierra Sun Times says Guilford, IN and “Fall” why it’s not stated on the main page of the Virtual Stamp Club for the 2022 US stamps?

    • I forgot to add Guilford, and I don’t think “fall” is specific enough, especially since I believe all 7 of the newly-announced issues will be released in the fall (as is standard for holiday issues). “Guilford” is there now.

      • Thanks. Don’t forget to include (no ceremony) for this issue. However, only Charles M. Schultz will have one in the fall. At least I don’t remember a single definitive holiday stamp to be issued with a ceremony.

        • I usually only mark “No Ceremony” when the USPS says there won’t be one and we know there won’t be a local one, or when it’s closer to the date (closer to certainty).

As for holiday “special” issues, for years the fall American Stamp Dealers Association show (sometimes called the “Mega-Event” Stamp Show, because “really, really big” wasn’t effusive enough) would have the ceremonies for the holiday issues. For instance, the 2010 Forevergreen stamps (Sc. 4478-81) were issued October 21, 2010, a Thursday, in New York City. My personal calendar doesn’t show the stamp show that day — I had other things going on that weekend — but wanna bet?

        • In recent years, the contemporary and religious Christmas stamps, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa stamps have had USPS headquarters ceremonies. This is again true this year. The indirect holiday stamps (Otters in Snow last year, Snowy Beauty this year) have not had USPS headquarters ceremonies but have had locally produced ceremonies. Of course, in 2020 there were no ceremonies for the holiday stamps due to the pandemic.

  3. Contrary to the main VSC listing, there will be a first day ceremony for Snowy Beauty. It is a local ceremony at 11AM EDT at the Guilford Covered Bridge Park, 4785 Main Street, Guilford, Indiana 47022. Linn’s Editor-in-Chief Jay Bigalke arranged the ceremony.
