Updated February 20th:
As reported below by VSC member Arthur von Reyn, “An article by Lisa Traiger in the February 18, 2021 issue of Dance Magazine indicates these stamps will be issued July 8, 2021, during the New York City Tap Festival.” You can read the article here.
The Tap Dancing stamp is ok. But it’s a slap in the face for the tap legends. Did they do their home work of Tap? What about Nicolas Brother, Bill “Bojangos” Robinson, Sandman Slim, Honi Coles, Baby Laurence, Sammy Davis, Jr. and so many others? The could have created a group of stamps with them. The second lady from the left and the lady on the left end danced at Hines stamp ceremony. The Stamp Advisory Committee should have done more research on Tap Dancing.
Are Any/All of these people Still Alive? I hope the USPS received Written Consent to use the images. ( Another Liberty in Lost Wages event for the Shysters… )
They are all alive; this is the rising generation who are clear that they stand on the shoulders of the artists that Clarence McKnight mentions. I happen to know that they knew about this photo shoot and are thrilled.
I’ll just leave this here…

From Post Bull June 3 #480904 Pn-20 Not on Auto-Distrib, Panes can be Split, you do NOT have to buy 20. PIC #16 and DCP #21 ( sets of 5 )
Still no word on Press Sheets, Cut or Uncut, for these stamps, or any other stamp(s) for the rest of the year. Has anyone heard anything about this?
The press sheets for the Tap Dance Issues will be both “with die-cuts” and “without die-cuts” according to the person I talked to in the USPS Stamp Fulfillment Department. The press sheets will go on sale on July 12th since July 10th falls on a Saturday.
I Postal bulletin 22573 dtd June 3, 2021 says the pane of 20 stamps MAY NOT BE SPLIT and MAY NOT BE SOLD individually. I confirmed this info with my local Postmaster who also showed me a copy of the bulletin..
Where did you get your info???????????
Lawrence, that notice is in almost every issue now, especially setenant design issues
Oh well, I could have missed it. From USA Philatelic 3rd Quarter 480906 Press Sheet $66.00 #08 Uncut Press sheet $66.00 I do not know what the Press Deadline for USA Philatelic is, the press sheets may be sold out by now…
The old stamp committee idea people have been replaced by three new ones. Hopefully they will do a better job of selection, not a biased one.
An article by Lisa Traiger in the February 18, 2021 issue of “Dance Magazine” indicates these stamps will be issued July 8, 2021, during the New York City Tap Festival. The dancers are real people, but not named due to USPS policy about showing living persons on stamps.
Thanks!
The people are not Irish. What are they doing on the US stamps dedicating to an Irish dance?
It’s tap dancing, not step dancing and how do you know they aren’t Irish? LOL
