A controversial figure on an upcoming US stamp.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
This Wednesday, the U-S issues a stamp honoring Malcolm X,
an outspoken proponent of black separatism for most of his
life. He was assassinated in 1965. The Postal Service does
expect some protests about the stamp.
However, Manny Gilyard of ESPER, a group of black stamp
collectors, thinks the stamp will sell well.
"You will have some people in the general population who
are African Americans who will be collecting this stamp and
probably sheets of this stamp where before they had no
concern whatever about stamps."

Gilyard does express some surprise, however, that Malcolm
is being honored with a stamp before a great African
American singer, actor and athlete.
Although there's been a great demand and a great push to
have Paul Robeson on a stamp they have managed to give us
Malcolm X before they've given us Paul Robeson

And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
