December 26-27, 1998:
New Year's resolutions.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Ask a bunch of stamp collectors what their philatelic goals
are for the coming year -- any year -- and the one that
everyone mentions is putting away some of those things they
bought the previous year. For many collectors, acquiring is
more fun than placing them in albums or boxes....or they
acquire faster than they can put 'em away.
Another common resolution is getting rid of duplicates and
other stamps that aren't wanted. Most collectors have
something -- usually SEVERAL somethings -- that they don't
remember why they bought it.
Other resolutions include being more careful and not
buying those "what-was-I-thinking?" items....trying a new
area of stamp collecting...and updating inventory lists.
Maybe then we wouldn't buy as many head-scratchers.
For me, my goals include being more organized, meeting
more deadlines, and cleaning up my office -- there's a
rumor there's a beige carpet on the floor in there, but
no one remembers.
I did accomplish one goal this past year -- I began
exhibiting.
And that's stamp collecting this week. Best wishes for
the New Year.
