December 19-20, 1998:
A stamp collector who helps pick U-S stamps
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries
Of the dozen people on the Citizen Stamp Advisory
Committee, only two are card-carrying stamp collectors.
One is American Philatelic Society president John Hotchner;
the other is Ron Robinson of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Robinson collects certain U-S stamps, and says he reminds
the non-collectors on the committee not everyone wants the
same thing.

"I think the people who have been involved in the stamp
program many times don't understand how many branches of
philately there are, and how specialized collections can
be and how diverse they are."
Even though he owns his own public relations firm, he
says he's not there as a marketing expert.

"I don't get involved in the advertising programs or the
promotional programs and all of that. I am there primarily
as a stamp collector, who has a marketing background. I
tell them, 'if we want to talk about the marketing program,
you should have hired me rather than appointed me."
And that's stamp collecting this week.
