August 22-23, 1998:

Kick off for the Stamp Show Season.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

STAMPSHOW '98 is the annual convention and meeting of the
American Philatelic Society, our national stamp collecting
organization, and is the first major stamp show of the
circuit. From this point on, there's a major stamp show
somewhere in the United States pretty much every weekend.

STAMPSHOW starts this Thursday at the Santa Clara,
California, convention center; admission is free and the
public is welcome. Collectors and dealers from all over
the country will be there, as well as seminars and
meetings. And some of the best collections in North
America will be on display next weekend.

There's a large, well-run youth area; most kids leave it
with a bag full of freebies. And for adults, Madame
Stampa, the Philatelic Fortune teller, will predict your
future based on stamps.

On Thursday at STAMPSHOW, the U-S will issue its Four
Centuries of American Art stamps, and on Friday, the
Marshall Islands salute the 200th anniversary of the
U-S Navy.

And that's stamp collecting this week.
