Debts, nets and suits.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

The company that owns Scott catalogues is suing the company
that publishes Minkus catalogues for using its Scott numbers
without permission. Scott numbers are a standard for stamp
collecting in this country. The Minkus publishers say
they're SO standard they're all but public domain.

Pacific 97, the big international once-a-decade stamp show
in San Francisco last Spring was a great show -- but it
lost money. Previous internationals in this country not
only returned the seed money to their patrons but
contributed funds towards the NEXT U-S international. What
went wrong with Pacific 97? No one is saying, but at least
now there's word that the show is settling some of its
debts. Unfortunately, that still leaves a cloud hanging
over big shows in this country.

And things got so nasty on the Internet among stamp
collectors in the last month or so that the American
Philatelic Society is reminding its members that its
Code of Ethics applies to conduct whether in-person,
in the mail....or on the Internet.

And that's stamp collecting this week.

I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
