Missing Pieces.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
A quarter of the way into the year, and we’re still missing some important details
about this year’s U-S stamps.
Now, I have to admit that U-S collectors may be a little spoiled: For years, the
Postal Service would outline its plans the previous summer. Other countries give far
less information, sometimes none at all until a new issue appears — if then.
Still, we’ve come to expect advance information about U-S stamps, and collectors and
dealers are left hanging now, with unanswered questions. Who is this year’s Legend of
Hollywood subject? Is the Music Icons series dead? And is it possible the U-S won’t
issue one or more stamps for the centennial of its entry into World War One, which made
the United States a world power?
And maybe this is a stretch, but our neighbor to the north, Canada, is celebrating its
150th anniversary as an independent country. We’ve been at peace even longer. How about
a matched pair of stamps?
There's nothing scheduled for June. And there’s almost always at least one big
attention-getting pop culture issue late in the year.
So there’s a good chance more 20-17 stamps will be announced. As they used to say in
radio… stay tuned.
