Meals by Mail
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
While the U-S Postal Service gets ready to celebrate Latin American cuisine on a set of
stamps… the Dutch Postal Agency is actually delivering food. It just expanded its food
delivery service to seven days a week, anywhere in the country. It’s not just groceries,
it’s complete meals. And Post N-L, the agency, even supplies the reusable insulated
boxes for the deliveries.
Sure, the Netherlands is much smaller than the United States — smaller than most states.
But consider the rapid rise in food delivery services here in the U-S… and all the
fast-food chains that are beginning to offer delivery.
And package delivery is a growth area for the U-S Postal Service. All those products that
we order online have to be delivered by SOMEONE… and the agency has a good share of that
market. It’s profitable, too.
We’re even seeing the U-S Postal Service make some deliveries on Sunday now.
So it’s really not that far a stretch from issuing stamps for empanadas and tamales… to
delivering them, ready to eat.
