Christmas stamps in U-S post offices.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The U-S Postal Service this year has new stamps for Christmas to fit just about every taste.
Some years, it reuses previously-issued stamps, especially the Madonna and Child designs.
But this year, there's a new one, a Florentine Madonna & Child stamp, so-called because no
one is sure exactly who the 15th-century artist was.
There is also a stamp showing a Nativity scene, the Holy Family silhouetted against the dawn
ky. That's original, recent artwork.
And for those who want something less religious, there are four Holiday Window Views stamps,
showing symbols of the season: a candle, a star ornament, a wreath and a Christmas tree, as
framed by windows. Again, all new artwork.
One of those designs, the wreath, is also showing up in the computer-vended postage labels
dispensed by the self-service machines in many post office lobbies.
There are also new stamps this year for Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
The U-S issued its first Christmas stamp in 1962.
