It ain't necessarily so.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

You may have heard that U-S stamp prices are going up. After all, there's a Postal Service
press release that says so.

Well, maybe.

Postal rates have to be approved by an independent agency, the Postal Regulatory Commission,
and the P-R-C rarely rubber-stamps the requests. It almost always makes changes. So this is
a PROPOSAL from the Postal Service, for a two-cent increase for mailing letters.

Three years ago, the Postal Service got a temporary three-cent increase because of financial
problems. Most of that emergency increase was rolled back in April, despite the Postal
Service's protests.

By law, the main postal rates are tied to the rate of inflation. That would be a one-cent
increase, not two. But the rate commission has some leeway… and how much postal rates
change, IF they change, isn't certain.

Still any Forever stamps you have before a rate hike… will be good AFTER it, too.
