New woman at the top.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Susan McGowan, director of Stamp Services and Corporate Licensing for the U-S Postal Service, is the new head of the stamp program, and calls it an amazing job.
"It's a very exciting time to be part of this program with all the new things that we're doing." RUNS :04
That's not so much the stamps as how they're presented.
"We're doing everything that we can to market this, the products, our stamps to try to get them out and keep them relative with the American public." RUNS :07
McGowan admits it wasn't always a smooth transition from her predecessor.
#6 "It was challenging coming into this job. We had a lot of new people, we had new processes to put in place." RUNS :06
That includes a new section on eBay.
"We're going to be doing auctions there, every quarter, where you're going to see more, rare, never-before-seen in some cases articles out of the Postmaster General's art collection." RUNS :10
And, for the first time, overseas customers are now able to order online using that eBay site.
While I've heard this described as the best job in the Postal Service, she says it's not easy.
#7 "It's such an amazing amount of work, but you really have to love what you do in this job, because you easily are working 80 hours a week." RUNS :08
But the job isn't without its perks.
"You get to be creative, you get to be a part of American history. You're making history every day (:06) when you're deciding what part of history you're going to commemorate with this stamp or that stamp, or what piece of our culture you're going to honor." RUNS :14
McGowan says we'll see the first stamps on which she had a major influence next year.
