The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
With little advance notice, Canada has just "dropped the puck" on stamps honoring its 7
National Hockey League teams. One set of seven designs features a hockey puck and a team
logo; another, team jerseys. Each is available as a self-adhesive stamp and as part of a
lick-and-stick souvenir sheet... so that's a total of 28 different stamps.
Unlike most Canadian commemoratives, these are not "Permanent" stamps — the equivalent of
U-S Forever stamps — but instead have a 63-cent denomination, Canada's current letter rate.
A message in the margin of the team jerseys souvenir sheet says the stamps honor both the
franchises and their fans.
The N-H-L presently has 30 teams, most of them in the U-S, and its headquarters is in
New York... but its roots are firmly in Canada, where hockey is the most popular sport.
The team logo stamps are available in rolls, the jerseys in booklets and also as
international-rate picture postcards.
