The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries

Each weekday, the U-S Postal Service is unveiling one of next year's stamps, using social
media and the Internet. But I got a look at practically the entire program recently, in a
press preview.

Next year's subjects range from Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs to 20th Century Poets.

Other subjects include the Civil War, The War of 1812, Bicycling, Girl Scouts and Great
Film Directors -- but no entry in a long-running series.

"There won't be another Legends of Hollywood this year other than the directors who are
not technically part of that series." :06

Stamps chief Steve Kearney says four baseball players are also being honored -- Willie
Stargell, Ted Williams, Larry Doby and Joe DiMaggio.

"We hope to be able to some interesting things with major league baseball, and with each
of the four teams." :05

There are also three statehood anniversaries...more stamps for Pixar animated films...
choreographers, and earthscapes -- our planet viewed from above.

There would have been stamps next year for the Summer Olympics -- except the Olympics
Committee wanted money for the rights, and the Postal Service said "uh-uh." So right now
the set is called "Athletes in Motion" -- and the version we saw had a blank spot where
the Olympic rings might have gone.
