Bracing for the inevitable.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

We're all going to go some time, but stamp dealer Jay Smith says too many collectors
leave behind a mess.

"They should be aware that they are going to have to deal with the issue, and if they
don't, a family member will." :06

Smith often buys collections from estates, and says collectors should help their heirs
while they can and--

"--start thinking and planning how they would their collection disposed of and start
documenting its value." :07

Whether a collector is selling the collection now or leaving behind a list of names to
contact, Smith says -- use common sense.

"Always check references and do whatever due diligence you would in any other
transaction." :06

If a family doesn't find a list of names to contact after death, Smith says there are
stamp organizations that can help.

"The first one I would think of would be the American Philatelic Society." :04

The A-P-S is based in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and its website is stamps-dot-org.

I'm Lloyd de Vries of The Virtual Stamp Club. For more on stamps and stamps collecting,
