Charity begins at home.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

You'd think that stamp collecting organizations and publishers would want to use the mail.
After all, that's what stamps are for, carrying mail.

And they DO support the postal system -- up to a point.

Many now use a combination of regular and electronic mail for messages and announcements.
Let's face it -- e-mail is cheaper, easier and faster.

Stamp collecting publications also are going electronic. Some of that IS the cost of paper
and printing, and a need to cut costs in this economy.

But it's also that U-S postal rates keep rising for publications with small circulations.
The rate structure favors the mass audience magazines....while the biggest stamp
collecting publications have fewer than 40-thousand readers. They pay proportionately more
to have each copy delivered.

So more and more are going to the Web.

Supporting the mail system is one thing, but, hey -- a buck is a buck.
