Beauty and the Feast

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Some of the year's best stamp designs are coming to your post office in the next month
or so.

The Pacific Coast Lighthouses should already be there....based on five original paintings
by Howard Koslow of beacons in California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii. It's
the fourth set featuring lighthouses in the past seventeen years, and the Postal Service's
Dave Failor's says that's because it's a popular subject.

"The ones that we did in 2003, the Southeast Coast lighthouses were just big hits and it's
like, why not follow up with more big hits?"

The Birds and the Bees should be there, soon, too, along with the bat and butterfly and
some of the flowers they pollinate, for the Pollination stamps, one of Failor's favorites.

"It's just a unique visual demonstration of how the whole pollination process works."

The four stamps form one pattern when arranged one way, another pattern when arranged
differently. Unfortunately, the booklet format in which they'll be printed doesn't show
this cleverness to its best advantage.

August sees an American Treasure --

"The Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass piece is just spectacular."

-- and a roll of stamps featuring ten different Beautiful Blooms -- flowers in vivid
colors.
