Time Of Change

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

This month, the executive directors of stamp collecting's two major organizations are BOTH
stepping down. Bob Lamb, a former assistant secretary of state, headed the American Philatelic
Society for 12 years.....

"I think we've had to be come much more businesslike as an organization, we've had to streamline
our operation, and we've had to modernize."

...and Joe Savarese led the American Stamp Dealers Association for thirty years.

"We've brought a lot more professionalism to the stamp dealing part of the business."

Every collector wants to be a dealer at some point, so another accomplishment, says Savarese, is
the recent launch of a collector-friendly magazine for dealers, American Stamp Dealer.

"I think we have to get more involved with the collecting community."

For Lamb, greater use of the Internet is both an accomplishment and the next challenge for the
A-P-S.

"We've really got to improve and strengthen our relationship with eBay. I think the hobby is
moving in that direction."

And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
