Stampshow 2000

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

It's the national stamp show run by the American Philatelic
Society, the 50-thousand-plus member organization. The annual
show runs this Thursday through Sunday at the Rhode Island
Convention Center in Providence, and admission is free.

On Thursday, a stamp honoring Vinegar Joe Stilwell, a key U-S
general in China during World War Two, will be issued at the
show. It's the first of the new Distinguished Americans series,
but at ten cents, you may not see it very often....except maybe
on junk mail.

There are several auctions, more than 130 dealers, world-class
exhibits, and one of the most famous stamps in the world, the
Inverted Jenny airplane. There are also two sessions for adult
beginning stamp collectors, and one for kids, as well as a
large youth area. And, if you've had trouble obtaining recent
U-S stamps from your local post office, there will be a
good-size postal retail operation.

This show moves around the country -- next year, it's in
Chicago -- so if you're in New England this weekend, stop by.

And that's stamp collecting this week.

I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
