The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Getting stamp collecting stories into the general press is
hard work, so it was interesting in the last couple of
weeks to see philately on the air and in print quite a bit.

Every story about Liverpool's celebration of the Beatles
and the re-launch of "Yellow Submarine" prominently
mentioned the unveiling of the Beatles stamp coming out
later this month as part of the Celebrate the Century 1960s
stamps. And, since George, Paul and Ringo didn't show up,
what better visual element for the stories than the stamp

The American Philatelic Society held its annual convention
in Cleveland late last month, and displayed one of the rarest
and most valuable U-S stamps, the 150-year-old Z-Grill. The
Associated Press ran a story called "Antiquated Stamps."

The latest U-S stamps -- honoring passenger trains -- were
also issued at the show, and both received good coverage from
the press, both local and national. One fast food worker in
Cleveland said to me, "That's all we're hearing about."

And that's stamp collecting this week.
