Valentine's Day Stickers that also carry the mail.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Some traditionalist collectors have dismissed current U-S
pop culture stamps as nothing but pretty stickers. Well,
this past Thursday, the Postal Service took that one step
further and issued its annual Love stamps that DO look more
like stickers than stamps.
That's because they're self-adhesive and brightly colored,
resembling Victorian Valentines. They're also not square
or even round, but shaped like lace Valentines, making them
the first "die cut" or oddly-shaped U-S stamps ever.
There's one stamp in pink at 33 cents, and another in
purple at 55, for those big Valentines and wedding
invitations weighing between one and two ounces.
There will also be 20-cent picture postcards featuring the
33-cent design, and stamped envelopes featuring a third
design. The envelopes are available in both note size and
business size, although whoever heard of Love business
letters?
And that's stamp collecting this week.
