Meet The Editor.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

"Philatelic" is the fancy word for stamp collecting, and Martin Miller is the new editor
of the American Philatelist, the official journal of the nation's biggest stamp collecting
organization, the American Philatelic Society. The job includes editing the Philatelic
Literature Review, the publication of the American Philatelic Research Library.

"It's a philatelist's dream job. It is the type of thing that if you collect stamps, if
you have an interest in the hobby at large, it is kind of the pinnacle of the hobby."
RUNS :09

Miller has a background in marketing.

"A lot of communications and public speaking, preparing other public speakers, as well
as a lot of writing, both technical and narrative. RUNS :08

He has also done work in graphic design, and, something very important in this day and
age….

"I bring to the A.P. some experience in web design, also." RUNS :04

Miller admits he's not a top expert in stamp collecting.

"I'm probably a little weaker on the philatelic knowledge than a lot of readers would
like, but the skill set I bring is the ability to help craft stories from those who are
experts in their subject matter." RUNS :12

And one of the joys of the job is publishing new writers.

"A new author a lot of the times will be excited and really energized by seeing their
work in print." RUNS :06

American Philatelist is one of the most-read stamp collecting publications in North
America. We'll hear from Martin in a future report on what he will — and won't — change
in the magazines.
