Gifts for stamp collectors.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
If you have a stamp collector on your gift list, you may want to get him or her something
relating to the hobby. But don’t try to buy something for the collection, unless you’ve
been given a specific request. Otherwise, there's too much chance of a mistake.
Instead, I have some suggestions that are more “one size fits all:"
Membership in the American Philatelic Society, the overall national organization for stamp
collectors. Basic membership is 48 dollars. The website is stamps-dot-org.
A donation in the name of the collector to the A-P-S or a favorite stamp collecting
organization. Don't know which is a favorite? See which society journals come in the mail!
A subscription to American Stamp Dealer & Collector magazine, 22 dollars a year, or ten
dollars for just the online edition. Fun and easy to read, comes out monthly.
American-stamp-dealer-dot-com.
The online edition of Linn’s stamp news, a weekly, 30 dollars a year. Still the most
comprehensive source of stamp collecting news in the U-S. The website is L-I-N-N-S-dot-com.
For casual U-S collectors, The Postal Service Guide to U-S Stamps, a good basic catalogue,
interesting stories. There are both print and digital editions available at
shop-dot-U-S-P-S-dot-com.
Finally, also a fun read, one of the books written by Herman Herst Junior a half century
go, with lots of stories from what some consider the golden age of stamp collecting.
That's H-E-R-S-T and they're available from a variety of sources.
