The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

The world’s postal agencies favor multi-stamp issues for popular subjects, both as a way
to make extra income but also to try to satisfy as many people as possible. The U-S is
no exception. So we have 16 National Park stamps, 20 Pets and four pickup trucks, among
other issues coming up this year.

And it doesn’t work: Someone always asks “Why wasn’t THIS included?” Usually, it’s
SEVERAL somebodies!

The park service centennial set includes some old reliables like Yellowstone and Grand
Canyon, but some that have not been on stamps before. The Park Service has more than
four hundred sites. Some of your favorites were probably left out. I know some of mine

The four pickup trucks chosen don’t include a Dodge, but two Fords, a Chevy and an
International Harvester.

Pets includes the usuals like cats and dogs — several of each, in fact — but also corn
snakes and hermit crabs. Almost immediately, someone wondered “Why no ferrets?”

Most major countries have committees that choose their stamp subjects, usually after
careful study of not only merit, but also marketing and licensing. It’s tough.

And you can’t satisfy everybody.
