Collecting Up North.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

As is often the case, everything in Canada is the same as in the U-S...

“Over the world, people collect basically the same way. They collect perhaps different
things.” RUNS :05

But not quite.

“There are a lot of Americans who collect Canada, very few Canadians who collect the U-S.”
RUNS :04

Charles Verge, a past president of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada, admits there IS
a subject you don’t see often in U-S collections.

“When you’re from a British Commonwealth country, you tend to collect by monarch.” RUNS :04

....that is, stamps issued only during the reign of a particular king or queen.

Still, the style is pretty much same.

“You have collectors, you have philatelists, you have researchers, you have writers.” RUNS :03

And Canada has its own stamp collecting shows.

We have 5 or 6 national shows a year, compared to the 34 in the U-S.” RUNS :04

And at all of these shows, some collectors exhibit their material competitively.

“We use the same judging manual, we use the same rules and regulations and we exchanges judges,
apprentices and exhibits ..... It’s Free Trade, basically.” RUNS :08

And Verge extends an invitation.

“You’re welcome to come and see us.” RUNS :01
