Remembering Ol’ Blue Eyes

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

As the world celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Frank Sinatra, one thing
is missing: A U-S stamp honoring him.

That’s because the U-S already issued one, as soon as it could, seven years ago. At the
time, the rules for commemorating people on stamps were that the Postal Service had to
wait 10 years after death. Sinatra died in 1998; the stamp was issued in 2008 — one day
short of ten years, if you want to be a stickler.

The Postal Service printed more of the 42-cent Sinatra stamps than usual... and they’re
all gone. You can probably find them in a stamp store or on eBay. The agency also
produced several souvenirs to go with the stamp. Only the C-D of Sinatra recordings is
still available — and only on the U-S-P-S-dot-com website.
