Time to Travel.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
There is a stamp collecting show somewhere in the U-S or Canada just about every weekend
from now through the end of summer. Most weekends, there are SEVERAL shows. The only
weekend I see without one is July 4th!
Some are just bourses, a bunch of dealers. Others have exhibits of rare and interesting
stamps... and meetings of regional or national stamp societies.
Buying stamps on the Internet is fine, fun and convenient. But there’s something special
about seeing stamps in person — even the ones not in your specialty or price range. It’s
also rewarding to talk to collectors and dealers with similar interests.
Many shows attract people from all over the country, not just the immediate vicinity.
Collectors may also include a little sightseeing with their trips to stamp shows. In fact,
some shows offer tours of local attractions.
Once, stamp collecting stopped for the summer, because of the heat and humidity. Now many
shows have MOVED to the summer... for the travel opportunities.
Through stamp collecting, I’ve visited many cities and regions I might not otherwise have
picked... and always found something of interest.
There’s a calendar of North American stamp shows at stamps-dot-org in the shows pull-down
menu.
So pack your bags and stamp catalogues, and hit the road.
