A Temple For Stamp Collecting.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

"Oh, my goodness. This is so incredibly awesome!"
RUNS :03

That's the reaction of Cheryl Ganz, the chief curator of philately of the Smithsonian
National Postal Museum, to the opening of the museum's new William H. Gross Gallery.

"It's not just that we get to share what we've been working on for seven years. It's
the reaction of everyone, from the serious collector to the family coming in with kids
who are seeing this and philately and stamps and mail with a whole new vision."
RUNS :15

Thousands of people attended the opening, which effectively doubles the size of the
Washington D-C museum... located next door to Union Station on Capitol Hill.

The new space gives the Postal Museum a chance to show off some rare stamps that couldn't
be displayed before, but it's also designed to appeal to non-collectors.

"One of the officials told me last night there is nothing like this anywhere in the
Smithsonian, and I couldn't ask for a better compliment."
