Pop goes the culture.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

American stamp collectors like to complain about the commercialization of the stamp
program. The U-S has been issuing pop culture stamps for decades, but in recent years,
we've seen CURRENT subjects on stamps, like this year's upcoming Harry Potter issue.

But it's not just the U-S. Britain's Royal Mail -- which is up for sale to a private
company -- just announced it will issue a set of special stamps celebrating Andy Murray's
win this year at Wimbledon.

Earlier this year, Royal Mail issued stamps showing all 11 actors who have played
Doctor Who — including the current one. Last summer, it issued instant stamps for British
athletes winning gold medals at the London Olympics -- a trend started by Australia years
ago.

And will there be royal baby stamps? You can bet on it.

Will major countries issue more pop culture stamps? You can bet on that, too.... as
postal agencies continue to seek more revenue... and more relevance.
