Belt tightening.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

The U-S Postal Service’s severe financial problems are affecting all parts of the agency –

Steve Kearney, manager of Stamp Services, says his department’s costs are much lower than
they were just a few years ago… but he’s still looking to cut expenses and increase revenue.

“That calls upon better use of our skills, better use of partnerships, with the philatelic
community, and with people who are interested in the stamps that we’re issuing.”

Kearney says his bosses do appreciate how important stamps are.

“We do sell 21 billion stamps each year in recent. That's a huge number. It's 8 billion
dollars in revenue.”

That’s just a small part of the Postal Service’s budget, but Kearney has been trying new
products related to stamps, hoping to bring in more customers.
