Make Room for Danny.

Pop culture stamps sell more copies than stamps for social causes, but when the U-S Postal
Service can combine them, so much the better.

Danny Thomas was a comedian in radio, film and especially television, where his series
"Make Room For Daddy" ran 13 seasons and earned him a Best Actor award. He also produced
such hit T-V shows as The Andy Griffith Show, the Dick Van Dyke Show and "The Mod Squad."

And he was also a humanitarian. Fifty years ago, he founded the St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital in Memphis… which treats children with catastrophic diseases….regardless of family
finances.

His son Tony says he considered that his proudest achievement. His daughter Marlo says the
hospital was his absolute passion.

And you can see the St. Jude's hospital in the background of the new stamp honoring Thomas,
as well as a St. Jude Police League pin in the lapel of his tuxedo.

The Danny Thomas stamp isn't part of a series, and it wasn't announced with the rest of
this year's stamp program.

The U-S Postal Service made room for Danny Thomas.
