Here Comes The Bribe

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries

Many British Commonwealth countries issued stamps to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince
William and Kate Middleton. Stamps for marriages involving royalty are popular with the
non-stamp collecting public, and sell well.

Canada, however, swore last January it would NOT issue any stamps for Kate and William. It
didn't for Charles and Diana, and wasn't going to do it this time, either.

A month later, Canada Post changed its mind -- or had its mind changed for it -- and
decided to issue a stamp and other collectibles on the wedding day.

And then, two months after the wedding, in the middle of a complete labor dispute shutdown
of all delivery operations, and with no advance notice Canada Post issued ANOTHER wedding
stamp and souvenirs, this time showing the bride and groom immediately after the ceremony.

One reason might be the visit of the newlyweds to Canada. But a cynic might also note how
much money Royal Wedding stamps make for their postal services.
