Specialization

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

When most people start collecting stamps, they collect everything -- all countries, 
all subjects.

The task becomes daunting. There have been just too many stamps issued in the 170 years 
since the first, especially in the last half century.

That's why many collectors decide to specialize, collecting only a certain area. Perhaps 
it's a subject that's of interest, related to their other hobbies or professions. It 
could be the country of their ancestors or old mail from a particular region of THIS 
country.

Some collectors specialize in a single issue....or the stamps that were issued the year 
they were born.... or special types of stamps, like air mail.

In fact, many collectors I know have SEVERAL specialties....and when stymied in one, they 
work on another.

Of course, if you want to collect every stamp ever issued, more power to you. I also know 
people like that...and the fact that they'll NEVER finish doesn't bother them a bit.
