Thanks for the Memory

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

"Thanks for the Memory" (music)
RUNS :02

If ever someone deserved to be on a U-S stamp instantly, it was Bob Hope. but when he
died in Two Thousand Three at the age of one hundred, the waiting period before being
honored postally was 10 years. The rule was shortened to 5 years in the interim...and
then it was just a matter of time.

He had so many careers and so much success that it's surprising it isn't a SET stamps.
He was a comedian and broadcaster, with a quick wit.

"[evil laugh] Why (am I) always laughing instead of the audience? (laughter)"
RUNS :05

And also an actor, from Broadway to the movies...and sometimes a political commentator.

"You see them sometimes, walking around blindly, not knowing what they do, not caring."
"You mean like Democrats?"
RUNS :05

He also made more than 60 tours to entertain U-S troops overseas.

Bob Hope isn't the subject of this year's Legends of Hollywood stamp....that would be
too restricting. He's just a legend.
