eBay doesn't want your money.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

By the end of the year, eBay will no longer allow transactions involving checks or money
orders. Everything must be done with either a credit card or the PayPal online payment
system.

This will affect not only the buying and selling of stamps, but everything else.

A merchant credit card account is too expensive for most small-time sellers ... so in
effect, the only alternative is PayPal.

eBay claims online payments promote honesty...but the fact that eBay OWNS PayPal does
raise some cynicism. On the other hand, the vast majority of transactions, at least for
stamps, do use PayPal.

Still, there are some stamp collectors who prefer checks and money orders, or even CASH,
which eBay banned two years ago.

There are other stamp-selling sites where non-electronic forms of payment are permitted,
notably Stamp-Wants-dot-com. Although eBay still has far more traffic...those sites may
get a boost from eBay's plastic-only policy.

I'm Lloyd de Vries of The Virtual Stamp Club. For more on stamps and stamp collecting,
