Boxing Match

The Stamp Collecting Report. I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Many serious stamp collectors use post office boxes as their addresses.

A major reason is security. There ARE thieves who specialize in stamps and other collectibles,
and with a little work, they may be able to figure out when a collector is at a collectors'
show. But with a box, it's harder to figure out where home is.

Some collectors even go so far as to obtain a box in a town OTHER than the one they live in.

The mail is also more secure inside a post office box than in a house or apartment mailbox.

Another reason is convenience. Now, a trip to the post office may not SOUND convenient. But
often, stamps are sent via registered or insured mail, and a signature is required for delivery.
If you're not home to sign for a package, you'll have to go to the post office to pick it up
anyway. With a box, you're already there.

And then there's the weather. No matter how hard it's raining, the mail in my post office box
stays dry. I can't say the same for the house mailbox.

And water and stamps don't mix.
