Buddy, can you spare a stamp?

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

It's no secret at work that I'm a stamp collector, so I get asked all sorts of
questions: How much to mail a letter? Where's the nearest post office? But my
favorite is, "Hey, Lloyd, do you have a stamp, so I can mail this?"

Most of the time, the answer is, "No, sorry," and that's it.

But sometimes the other person responds, "What do you mean, you don't have a
stamp with you? You're a stamp collector!"

Well, YES, but I don't carry my collection with me. And if I DID, I wouldn't sell
a stamp from it so you could mail the phone bill.

I'm tempted sometimes to answer, "Oh, gee, actually, I DO have one stamp with me.
The airplane on it is upside down — you don't mind, do you? — and another
copy of it sold recently for $400,000, but, sure, you can have it. I don't want you
to be hit with a late fee."

The irony is that sometimes, I DO have extra stamps with me that I want to sell.
And then my co-workers ask, "What's wrong with them? Is this legal?"
