YODA: Strong am I with the Force

AND with mailers and stamp collectors. When the fifteen Star Wars stamps were issued last
spring, an online poll chose Yoda to be the subject for a stand-alone stamp.

The choice pleases Terry McCaffrey, manager of stamp development for the Postal Service.

"He's a very colorful character in his own right, and he has a lot of personality, so I'm
really happy to see this happen."

LdeV: "Who'd you vote for?"

TMcC: (laughs) "I voted for Yoda, and I voted for Darth, and then I voted for Yoda a couple
more times."
RUNS :14

McCaffrey was also the art director for this stamp. One of the challenges was picking the
RIGHT Yoda.

"There is the original Frank Oz Yoda, and there's the computerized Yoda."
RUNS :05

The one you'll see on the stamp is the one created and voiced by Frank Oz, the Muppeteer
who also created Miss Piggy.

"900 years old you reach and look as good you will not, hmmmm?"

And it's not exactly the same design issued as part of the set last Spring.

"We tried to make it a little bit different, primarily for collectors, so that they could
see the difference, by cropping in tighter. So we actually lose the feet of Yoda on the new
version, and we put a metallic teal border instead of the white border that you would
normally see on stamps around it so that it did separate it a little bit and make it a
little bit different from the original one."
