Taking A Closer Look

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Last summer, stamp collecting journalists were shown most of the designs for next year's
U-S stamps -- for about two minutes apiece.

Now, we -- and you -- can really study thosee stamp designs.

Take the Hattie McDaniel stamp. Best known for playing maids and servants in the movies
and on radio, there's no trace of that in her glamorous stamp portrait.

Judy Garland is best known really for another Nineteen Thirty Nine movie, says the Postal
Service's Dave Failor.

<"Of course, everybody knows her as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz">

But, again, the stamp design shows a more glamorous performer. In both cases, that may be
the wishes of the families.

But bikers may scratch their heads when they see one of the motorcycle stamps.

<"The artist just really thought 'Y'know, I want to give it a shot about creating a chopper
digitally on my computer to see what it would look like,' and it turned out to be a great
piece of artwork and we thought, well, let's just go with that.">

And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
