United We Stand, Divided We Issue.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The Postal Service's patriotic United We Stand stamp will be
issued next Wednesday in Washington, and the states of New
York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey....and then available in
the rest of the country 12 days later, November 5th.

It's not unusual -- in fact, it's customary -- to issue
stamps in one or two cities, then nationwide the next
business day, with special cancellations in the "first day"
cities. But nearly two weeks IS very unusual.

The reason is that the Postmaster General promised to get
this stamp out as soon as possible. There won't be enough
for everywhere by the 24th....but there will be enough for
the area hardest hit.

Collectors and mailers elsewhere will be able to order the
stamp by phone or on the Internet from the 24th -- and use
it -- no matter where they are.

Meanwhile, in a philatelic sign that things are returning to
normal in New York, there's a major stamp show this
weekend....about three-and-a-half miles from Ground Zero.

And that's stamp collecting this week.

I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
