January 13-14, 2001:
Why are Scandinavian collectors going to ARIZONA next weekend?
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Every year, collectors in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and
Iceland hold a regional stamp show somewhere in Scandinavia...
EXCEPT when an International show is being held in the region.
And this year, there's an International in Denmark in October.
So the American collectors of Scandinavian stamps pitched
holding the regional show here in the U-S instead, and the
offer was accepted. Nordia Two Thousand and One is being held
in conjunction with Aripex, which this year is in Tucson. And
on top of THAT, the American Philatelic Society is holding its
winter event there, too, making it a three-in-one show.
A number of organizations besides the A-P-S are holding meetings
there, among them the United States Stamp Society, and, of
course, the Scandinavian Collectors Club.
And the world's most valuable stamp, a color error from Sweden
in the 1800s, is being MAILED from New York to Tucson for the
show.
Registered mail, of course.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
